Issue/Introduction

This article provides an explanation for the capacity usage data inconsistency between the two views.

Symptoms:
Used and free space values for vSAN datastore in HCI Mesh environments might be inconsistent between the capacity UI (Cluster's Monitor view → vSAN → Capacity) of the client cluster and server cluster for the same vSAN datastore. The inconsistency is typically less than 1GB.

Server Cluster

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0.x

Cause

Due to performance considerations, capacity usage data will not be refreshed on every byte usage change on the client cluster for the remote vSAN datastore(s). The capacity usage gap between the capacity UI on the client cluster and the one on the server cluster will typically be off by 1GB.

Resolution

No action is needed. Capacity usage data on the client cluster will eventually get refreshed. You can check the server cluster vSAN capacity UI to get more accurate capacity usage data.
