Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
When an edge diagnostic bundle is generated from the SASE Orchestrator, OSPF flaps leading to a network outage while OSPF reconverges.

Environment

VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud
VMware SD-WAN

Cause

This is caused by known issue # 95850

A command triggered as part of the diagnostic bundle creation leads to a processing delay which causes OSPF hellos not to be processed and OSPF to flap.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in SD-WAN Edge releases:

Release 4.5.2 (R452-20230628-GA) or later
Release 5.0.1.5 (R5015-20230922-GA) or later
Release 5.2.0.0 (R5200-20230530-GA) or later

For information on how to upgrade please see VMware SD-WAN Software Upgrade FAQs

Workaround:
To work around this issue, change the OSPF hello internal to 25 seconds to avoid the neighborship flap before generating a diagnostic bundle.

To change the OSPF hello interval follow these steps:

  1. In the SD-WAN Service of the Enterprise portal, click Configure > Edges. The Edges page displays the existing Edges.
  2. Click the link to an Edge or click the View link in the Device column of the Edge. The configuration options for the selected Edge are displayed in the Device tab.
  3. In the Connectivity category, expand Interfaces.
  4. Click the link to the interface configured with OSPF to edit the settings.
  5. Scroll down to the OSPF section, click on Advanced Settings and change the timers accordingly:
