NSX-T Manager allows to restore on the same NSX Manager where backup is performed

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• NSX-T Manager allows to restore on the same NSX Manager where backup is performed.
• As per the NSX-T documentation , "You must restore a backup on a new installation of NSX Manager".
• Restoring a backup to a non new NSX Manager will result in the NSX Manager to be in an inconsistent state.

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center
VMware NSX-T
VMware NSX-T Data Center 2.x

Cause

Restoring a backup to a non-new NSX Manager appliance is not supported.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in NSX 2.5.0 where the following message will appear when trying to restore on the same NSX Manager where backup is performed.



Workaround:
Restore a backup on a new installation of NSX Manager.
