Issue/Introduction

  • NSX-T 3.0.x version is used.
  • NSX-T Tags created from the menu "Inventory" > "Tags" cannot be deleted. When the Tag is removed from all Virtual Machines, the Tag is not deleted and appears with 0 Virtual Machines assigned.
  • When all Virtual Machines are un-assigned from a Tag created implicitly (by adding a new Tag to a Virtual Machine directly) from the menu "Inventory" > "Tags" > "Edit" > de-select all Virtual Machines, the Tag is not deleted and appears with 0 Virtual Machines assigned.
  • A Tag created implicitly (by adding a new Tag to a Virtual Machine directly) is automatically deleted when the Tag is removed from all Virtual Machines from the menu  "Inventory" > "Virtual Machines" > "Edit"

Cause

For the two scenarios mentioned in the Symptoms section, Tags with  0 Virtual Machine assigned to will be automatically deleted after 5 days. There is no manual way to delete those Tags.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.0.1


Workaround:
Tags with 0 Virtual Machine assigned will be automatically deleted after 5 days.
