Issue/Introduction

Virtual machines with Oracle Linux 6. 2 guest operating systems have slow mouse and window movements. This behavior occurs because the Oracle Linux 6.2 in-box VMware video driver fails to load and the virtual machine uses the VESA driver instead.

Environment

VMware ESXi 4.1.x Embedded
VMware ESX 4.1.x
VMware ESXi 4.1.x Installable
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.0

Resolution

Oracle has released a patch for this problem. You must have access to the Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network.
  1. Install an Oracle Linux 6.2 guest operating system in a virtual machine.
  2. Verify that the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is not present on the virtual machine. If it is, remove it.
  3. Complete ULN registration and make sure that you can get updates from the ULN.
  4. Run the yum update xorg-x11-drv-vmware command.
  5. Install VMware Tools.
  6. Restart the virtual machine.
The VMware video driver is installed and the mouse and application windows work as expected.
