Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x

Cause

This issue can be triggered in environments where a large number of groups have been assigned permissions for the vCenter Server Inventory objects and users are logging in with the vSphere Client's Use Windows session credentials option.

Resolution

This is a known issue in vCenter Server 5.1 and has been resolved in vCenter Server 5.1.0b. For more information, see Resolved Issues in the VMware vCenter Server 5.1.0b Release Notes.

To work around this issue for the vSphere Client, manually enter user credentials when logging in and do not use the Use Windows session credentials option.
