Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The Nvidia vGPU driver for ESXi was imported in the Lifecycle Manager Patch repository
  • a "Patch" baseline was created, containing only this driver
  • When scanning an ESXi against this baseline, it is always reported as compliant - no matter if the driver is installed on the ESXi, or if an older version of the driver is installed, or if no Nvidia driver is installed at all

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the baseline for the Nvidia driver has been created as a "Patch" baseline. The driver is an extension; therefore, the baseline must be configured as an "Extension" baseline as well.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
  • Remove the existing baseline.
  • create a new baseline with the "Extension" type instead of the "Patch" type that is selected as default:

  • add the driver to the baseline
