Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Add Host on Async patched domains/clusters may fail if the Host is imaged with ESXi version other than Async patched ESXi version as that of the domain/ clusters.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 4.x
VMware Cloud Foundation 5.0

Cause

All the ESXi hosts are expected to be at same version for expanding the cluster with new hosts. This is the current behavior of the product.

It is possible that VMware does not release ESXi stock ISO images found for the VCF supported ESXi Async Patches.  ESXi image zip files are released to the customers.

Resolution

This is an expected product behavior and there are no further improvements planned.

Workaround:

To workaround the issue, please follow anyone of the below mentioned proceudures to convert the ESXi zip files to ISO files for VCF Day-n operations:

• Image existing ESXii hosts with older version and upgrade or patch to Async Patch ESXi version

OR

• Create ESXi ISO's with vSphere CLI tools. For more information, please refer Create a Custom ESXi ISO Image Using VMware PowerCLI and move forward with Day-n operations mentioned above.
