Alert: "Adapter instance object is down" and adapter collection stops

VCF Operations/Automation (formerly VMware Aria Suite) VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations) 8.x

Issue/Introduction

Users report that Aria Operations adapter instances stop collecting metrics, resulting in blank reports and empty dashboard widgets.

Primary symptoms include:

  • Scheduled Reports are blank.

  • No metrics showing in Dashboard integration widgets.

  • The Inventory view in the Home Page is not loading as expected.

  • The status of the adapter instance is Warning.

  • The Alarm Bell icon shows an adapter with the "Object down" error.

The following Administrative Alerts are displayed:

  • Adapter instance Object is down

  • Objects are not receiving data from adapter instance

When hovering over the Warning status, you see messages similar to:

  • Status : None

  • Certificate validation failed

  • Unable to connect due to invalid username or password





The following error is observed in the /storage/log/vcops/log/adapters/VMwareAdapter/vCenter<ID>.log file:

ERROR [Adapter scheduler] (##) com.vmware.vcops.vlsi.VcSessions.terminateSession - Unable to logout from VC
 com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.NotAuthenticated: The session is not authenticated.
at jdk.internal.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Native Method) ~[ ?:? ]

Environment

  • VMware Aria Operations 8.17.x

  • VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

Connectivity between the configured endpoint and Aria Operations has failed due to an expired or renewed certificate, or invalid credentials.

Resolution

VMware Aria Operations 8.17.x and below

 

  1. In the left pane, select Data Sources > Integrations.

  2. Select the target adapter instance and click Edit.

  3. Click Validate Connection.

    • If prompted that credentials are incorrect, update them with valid credentials.

  4. When prompted to trust/import the associated certificate, click OK.

  5. Click Save to save the configuration.

  6. Stop and then Start collection on the adapter instance to ensure data collection resumes.

 

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x and above

 

  1. In the left pane, select Administration > Integrations.

  2. Select the target adapter instance and click Edit.

  3. Click Validate Connection.

    • If prompted that credentials are incorrect, update them with valid credentials.

  4. When prompted to trust/import the associated certificate, click OK.

  5. Click Save to save the configuration.

  6. Stop and then Start collection on the adapter instance to ensure data collection resumes.
