Issue/Introduction

  • vSphere Replication management pack for VCF/Aria Operations is configured using [email protected] account in the integration settings.
  • Testing the connection of the vSphere replication adapter is successful.
  • vSphere Replication adapter shows OK status.
  • Child object VRMS site collection status is not collecting
  • Collection cycles fail with an access denied error in the adapter log:

WARN [Collector worker thread 2] com.vmware.vr.vrops.VrAdapter.onCollect - Failed to collect data
com.vmware.vim.binding.vmodl.fault.SecurityError: Access to perform the operation was denied.

  • vSphere Replication objects are not detected in Aria Operations after adding the vSphere Replication adapter account and the following errors are observed in /storage/log/vcops/log/adapters/vsphere_Replication_adapter.log

    ERROR [TasksManager-TaskHandler-6] (56232)
com.integrien.alive.common.adapter3.AdapterBase.getResourceCollectResult - Failed to retrieve collect result for resource of adapter 'VrAdapter': Adapter is not in collecting state.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x
VCF Operations 9.x

Cause

A defect in vCenter that accepts any capitalization of Administrator but only correctly entered Administrator will have permission to generate metrics.

Resolution

To workaround this issue:

Use capital "Administrator" and not lowercase "administrator" when entering the account details, otherwise it will succeed in testing connection but fail to gather metrics.
