Aria Operations 8.x logs an access denied error attempting to collect data from vSphere Replication

Issue/Introduction

• vSphere Replication management pack for Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations) is configured using [email protected] account in the integration settings.
• Testing the connection of the vSphere replication adapter is successful.
• vSphere Replication adapter shows OK status.
• Collection cycles fail with an access denied error in the adapter log:

WARN [Collector worker thread 2] com.vmware.vr.vrops.VrAdapter.onCollect - Failed to collect data
com.vmware.vim.binding.vmodl.fault.SecurityError: Access to perform the operation was denied.

 

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

A defect in vCenter that accepts any capitalization of Administrator but only correctly entered Administrator will have permission to generate metrics.

Resolution

To workaround this issue:

Use capital "Administrator" and not lowercase "administrator" when entering the account details, otherwise it will succeed in testing connection but fail to gather metrics.
