Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
When editing or adding a NIC to a VM, we receive the following error:
"Both an IPv4 and IPv6 address are required for dual stack NIC"
This error can also be observed when creating a networked VM.
You will see messages in the /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/logs/vcloud-container-debug.log similar to:
XXXX-XX-XX XX:XX:XX,573 | DEBUG | task-service-activity-pool-309 | DefaultNetworkedVmManager | Failed to handle dual stack IP assigment. This operation requires both an IPv4 and an IPv6 spec.
Environment
VMware Cloud Director 10.x
Cause
This only occurs for VMs that are attached to direct connect Organization VDC networks that have a total of two network segments assigned on the external network. Cloud Director is incorrectly labeling these networks as dual stack networks, despite not having IPv6 addresses assigned anywhere.
Resolution
This is a known issue affecting Cloud Director 10.1. This issue is resolved in Cloud Director 10.1.1, available at VMware Downloads.
Workaround:
To workaround this issue for individual networks please contact VMware Support for assistance. Please note that any new networks will continue to encounter the issue and as such upgrading is the only permanent fix.
