Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • "busy completing an operation VAPP_DEPLOY" error when using the multiselect feature to power on or delete virtual machines in VMware Cloud Director 10.3.x and 10.4, versions.
  • When powering on multiple virtual machines in VMware Cloud Director using the multiselect feature, one virtual machine is powered on, but the second one gets an error: "busy completing an operation VAPP_DEPLOY".
  • Some of the virtual machines selected are in the same vApp.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

This issue is caused by the UI sending concurrent calls to power on/delete the virtual machines.
The first virtual machine powered on marks the vApp as busy which blocks additional virtual machines in the same vApp being powered on with the error, "busy completing an operation VAPP_DEPLOY".

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Cloud Director 10.3.x and 10.4 versions.
The issue is resolved in Cloud Director 10.4.1, available at VMware Downloads

Workaround:

To workaround the error vApps with multiple virtual machines can be started from the Data Centers, vApps or Applications, Virtual Applications sections of the Cloud Director Tenant portal.
Starting a vApp will cause all virtual machines within it to be powered on.
