"Internal Server Error - identifier" when creating vApps in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  •  Creating vApps generate the following error in the Cloud Director UI:
"Internal Server Error - identifier"
  • The error is repeated intermittently for all the vApps Creation
  • In the /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/logs/vcloud-container-debug.log, you see entries similar to:

Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException: identifier
at com.vmware.ssdc.val.types.VALRef.<init>(VALRef.java:85)
at com.vmware.ssdc.val.types.StorageContainerVALRef.<init>(StorageContainerVALRef.java:19)
at com.vmware.ssdc.val.types.DatastoreVALRef.<init>(DatastoreVALRef.java:13)
at com.vmware.vcloud.fabric.storage.placement.impl.LinkedClonePlacementUtil.getDatastoreValRef(LinkedClonePlacementUtil.java:217)


Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

The issue can be caused if vCenter is out of sync with Cloud Director. 

Resolution

To resolve this issue, please open a case with Broadcom Support to do the modification in VCD Database. For more information, see Creating and managing Broadcom support cases
