VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

  • You reverted the VMware Cloud Director Appliance (VCD) Cells.
  • The VCD services do not start after reverting to the snapshot
  • The VCD UI is not available anymore and you see the error:

HTTP ERROR 404 JSP file [/error.jsp] not found

  • The cluster health status on the VMware Appliance Management Interface (VAMI) for VCD shows status: Read_Only_Primary

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

The issue occurs because the snapshots taken on the Cloud Director Standby Cells were minutes after the Primary Cell.

Snapshots on the Standby Cells should be taken immediately before a snapshot of the Primary Cell or while both Primary and Snapshot Cells are powered off.

Resolution

For removing a standby cell from VMware Cloud Director, please follow the document: Unregister a Running Standby Cell in Your VMware Cloud Director Database High Availability Cluster
If you are unable to use the Cloud Director API for unregistering a standby, please contact Broadcom Support and note this Article ID (325557) in the problem description. For more information, see Creating and managing Broadcom support cases

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:

Due to the replication not working on the Standby Cell, the HA postgres database will not be not working as expected which may produce downtime in case of failure of the Primary Cell as it will be unable to failover on any Standby.
