Issue/Introduction

  • "x.x.x.x is not a valid IPv6 address" error when setting a VM NIC IP.
  • Above error seen when creating a new VM or modifying the NIC for the existing VM.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.0

Cause

This problem arises for a vdc with only one network, when we create a VM in such vdc, by default the only network present is populated in NIC but its other details like IP type and IP mode are not populated.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting 10.5.x and 10.6.0 and is resolved in VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1 (not released yet)

To resolve the issue, please use the following workaround:

Workaround:

  1. Log into the tenant portal.
  2. Click on the Data Centers tab and choose the required Data Center.
  3. Click on Virtual Machines.
  4. Click on the the virtual machine.
  5. Click on the NICs tab.
  6. Click the Edit button.
  7. On the drop down menu for the Network select None
  8. Change the drop down menu for the Network to the Org VDC Network. 
  9. Populate the IP.
  10. Click Save.
