VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Attempting to Add NSX-T Cloud in the Cloud Director Provider portal under Resources > Infrastructure Resources > NSX-ALB > NSX-T Clouds.
  • An NSX-T Manager has been registered with Cloud Director successfully and a Geneve type Network Pool created in the Cloud Director Provider portal under Resources > Cloud Resources > Network Pools.
  • An NSX-ALB Controller has been registered with Cloud Director successfully under Resources > Infrastructure Resources > NSX-ALB > Controllers.
  • The NSX-ALB Cloud to be added uses the same Transport Zone as the Network Pool created in Cloud Director.
  • It is not possible to Add NSX-T Cloud because the Available Clouds are greyed out and the Associated Network Pool column is empty.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5

Cause

This issue can occur if the NSX-T Manager address used to register NSX in Cloud Director and in the NSX-T Cloud in NSX-ALB do not match.

This issue can also occur if additional characters such as a trailing "/" are present on the NSX-T Manager address in Cloud Director.

Resolution

To resolve this issue ensure that the NSX-T Manager addresses match in Cloud Director and NSX-ALB using their respective formats.

For example for an NSX-T Manager with the FQDN, "nsx.example.com", we would want the following in Cloud Director and NSX-ALB respectively:

Cloud Director:
https://nsx.example.com

NSX-ALB:
nsx.example.com

To update the address the following steps can be taken:

  1. Log in to the NSX-ALB controller cluster UI as an administrator such as the default "admin" user.
  2. Navigate to Infrastructure > Clouds and edit the NSX-T Cloud to be used with Cloud Director.
  3. Confirm the NSX-T > NSX-T Manager Address listed, for example:
nsx.example.com
  1. Click Cancel to close the Edit dialogue.
  2. Log in to the Cloud Director Provider portal as a System Administrator.
  3. Navigate to Resources > Infrastructure Resources > NSX-T > NSX-T Managers, click the NSX-T Manager in question, and click Edit.
  4. Set the Url field to match the same FQDN as used in NSX-ALB but with the addition of "https://" for example:
https://nsx.example.com

NOTE: Ensure there is no trailing "/" on the end of the Url, for example using "https://nsx.example.com/" would cause issues when adding the NSX-T Cloud in Cloud Director later.
  1. Click Save to confirm the changes.
  2. Retry the Add NSX-T Cloud action in the Cloud Director Provider portal under Resources > Infrastructure Resources > NSX-ALB > NSX-T Clouds.
