"StoragePlacementSpec required property podSelectionSpec not set" error when adding a disk to a VM in vCloud Director for Service Providers

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Adding a disk to a virtual machine gives an error of the form:

StoragePlacementSpec required property podSelectionSpec not set

• Virtual machine resides on a storage policy backed by a datastore cluster.
• Disk that is being added resides on a datastore outside of the datastore cluster.

Cause

This is a known issue affecting vCloud Director for Service Providers 9.1.x & 9.5.x.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCloud Director 9.7.0.1, available at VMware Downloads.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue create the disk on the same storage as the VM, then migrate to the desired storage policy.
