Unable to connect to multiple Oracle database instances when using TVS Oracle Management Pack 4.X and running vROps 8.6.2

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
Receiving "Failed to create AI resource. Resource with same key already exists." error when adding additional oracle DB instances.

 

Environment

VMware vRealize Operations 8.6.x

Cause

When configuring an adapter instance, the Oracle server name needs to be a unique field. Using an IP address can circumvent this restriction.

Resolution

There is no resolution at this time. Please utilize the workaround.

Workaround:
There are 3 options if there are more than 1 DB instance on a host:

1. If there are only 2 DB instances on the same host the IP and Hostname can be used to configure two adapter instances. One for each instance.

2. The collector's host file can be updated with multiple unique alias pointing to the same host. This needs to be done on each collector node that will be used for the adapter instances. These alias can then be used to setup adapter instances to collect from different DB instances on the same host

3. Unique DNS alias can be added for each DB instance on the same host. These alias can then be used to configure the adapter instances.

Additional Information

Version 4.X of the management pack introduced this. The issue is not present on version 3.X of the management pack.
