VIMPATCH

This patch can be applied without reinstalling vCenter products, vSphere Update Manager, and has the ability to deliver JRE (1.7.0_141). This patch can separately update the Java version of all vCenter Server components depending on JRE server by using the VIMPatch ISO file. The patch delivers updates for JRE and vCenter Server tc Server, which can be applied without reinstalling any of the vCenter Server components.

Note: Applying this patch only updates the JRE and tc Server present within the environment and will not change the build number of your vCenter Server components. You must install the VMware-VIMPatch-5.5.0-6520252-20170901.iso in order to install all VMware Software Fixes and update your build number.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x

Resolution

Summaries and Symptoms

The following vCenter Server components depend on JRE and have to be patched:

  • vCenter Single Sign-On
  • vCenter Inventory Service
  • vCenter Server
  • vSphere Web Client
  • vRealize Orchestrator (formerly known as vCenter Orchestrator)
  • vSphere Update Manager

Patch Download and Installation

VIMPATCH package provides an autorun with Patch All button. When you double-click the Patch All button, patches are applied to the existing products by launching the corresponding Windows installer packages. Autorun displays the patch results at the end.

NOTE:
  • During the patch process, the Management Software undergoes a downtime as the patch restarts the services.
  • vSphere Update Manager activities like Remediation of Hosts etc., are not supported while patching vSphere Update Manager.
  • Systems where all vCenter Server components exist on a single system (Simple Install system), VIMPATCH can be applied only once to update all components. On a distributed system, you need to patch the components on each system individually.
