How to set a metric family filter in NetOps Portal ?

Issue/Introduction

How to set a filter in NetOps Portal to filter certain components from being polled.

 

Environment

Release: Any
Component: IMPOLL

Cause

By default, NetOps Portal will discover all metrics listed in a VC when we poll a device.

This can lead to too many polled items, as well as wasted resources collecting counters that are not needed.

Resolution

To set and activate a metric family filter 

i) Create or copy a Monitoring profile. You cannot edit or set a filter for factory monitoring profiles.

ii) Select the monitoring profile from the Monitoring Profiles page. Click the row of a metric family from the Metric Families tab, click Edit Filter, and edit the filter criteria.

iii) Associate the monitoring profile with a device collection.

iv) Run a discovery and review the Filter report on the Monitored Devices page. The filters on each of the monitoring profiles indicate whether they monitor the device collection that you want to filter.
