Issue/Introduction

On a Linux virtual machine on a Cisco UCS host that uses Cisco Palo converged network adapters, when you run the ethtool –S ethX console command to obtain statistics about the traffic through a VMXNET3 adapter that has vSphere DirectPath I/O with vMotion enabled and is configured with multiple transmit queues (TQs) and receive (RQs) queues, the statistics remain unchanged for queues other than TQ 0 and RQ 0. X in ethX stands for the sequence number of the interface that is dedicated to the VMXNET3 adapter in the guest operating system.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.0
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x

Resolution

The problem appears because the Cisco Palo converged network adapter does not support multiple queues. Statistics about these TQs and RQs are added to the statistics about TQ 0 and RQ 0.
