Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • OVF/vApp depending on environmental variables for startup will fail to start after a HA failover.
  • vmtoolsd --cmd info-get guestinfo.ovfenv returns no value after HA failover of the VM.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x
VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.7.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the OVF environment information is lost after management server is migrated through vSphere HA.

Resolution

This is an expected behavior and as per the design.

Workaround:
To work around this issue, power off and then power on the VM/vApp from vCenter after HA failover.
