Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
Cannot vMotion a powered-on VM listed under resource pool between two hosts in the same cluster.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x
VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x

VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Cause

CPU reservation on resource pool is enabled and set to a high value that cannot be satisfied by destination host.

Resolution

Use one of these options to resolve this issue:
  • Set CPU reservation on resource pool to "0 Minimum".
  • Set it to less than the value which is already set. ( Example: if it is 200.000 MHz, try 100.000 )


Workaround:
To work around this issue, set CPU reservation to Minimum on the resource pool.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
You won't be able to migrate VMs between hosts that cannot satisfy resource pool reservation.
