Issue/Introduction

If you redirect a standalone or composite USB device that includes an HID component such as a mouse or trackball, the position of the mouse pointer is not updated on the guest system's display as you move the device.

This issue is reported for the Philips SpeechMike and the IOGEAR Digital Scribe.

Environment

VMware View Manager 3.x
VMware View Manager 4.0.x
VMware View Manager 4.5.x

Resolution

Notes:
  • This article only applies to PCoIP. RDP always blocks the redirection of USB human interface devices.
  • This article does not apply to PCoIP Thin Clients.

Instead of relying on the host system's hardware, configure the virtual machine to update the position of the mouse pointer:
  1. Power off the virtual machine for the guest system.
  2. Make a backup copy of the .vmx configuration file for the virtual machine.
  3. Add this line to the .vmx configuration file.

    svga.noHWCursor = "TRUE"

  4. Power on the virtual machine.

For more information on editing .vmx files, see Tips for editing a .vmx file (1714).
