Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to reset the vCloud Usage Meter root password.


Environment

VMware vCloud Usage Meter 2.3.x
VMware vCloud Usage Meter 2.2.x

Resolution

To reset the vCloud Usage Meter root password:
  1. Start the vCloud Usage Meter appliance.
  2. At the GRUB boot menu, select the Linux option and press e.
  3. Select the SUSE kernel.
  4. Press e again to edit.
  5. Go to the line that starts with kernel, press space, and then add:

    init=/bin/sh

  6. Press Enter.
  7. Press b to boot.
  8. After the system boots, enter this command in the console:

    passwd

  9. Enter the new password and then re-enter the same password to confirm it.
  10. Reboot the vCloud Usage Meter appliance.
