Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to install the vSphere Client VCM Plug-In.
  • When you download the script plugin from http://<VCM Collector IP>/VCVPAnon/Xml/vSphereClientVCMPlugin.xml, you see the error:

    The server could not interpret the client's request. (The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.)

Environment

VMware vCenter Configuration Manager 5.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the IIS authentication does not use the Basic Authentication for the VCVPAnon.

Resolution

  1. Open IIS Manager.
  2. Expand the VCM Collector Site.
  3. Expand Sites.
  4. Expand Default Web Site.
  5. Select VCVPAnon.
  6. Double-click on Authentication in the IIS.
  7. Ensure that only Anonymous Authentication is set to Enabled.
  8. Restart IIS.
  9. Register the plugin.
