Issue/Introduction

The purpose of this article is to help ESXi administrators identify the USB 3.0 controller device in their AMD Naples Zen based server.

Symptoms:

On servers based on AMD's Naples Zen processor, which are running ESXi 6.5 U1, lspci output does not show the complete description of the USB 3.0 controller. The USB 3.0 controller has Vendor ID of 0x1022, and Device ID of 0x145f.

Example:

The lspci output should contain entries similar to:

0000:04:00.3 Serial bus controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] USB 3.0 Host controller [vmhba33]

However, the output contains only this entry:

0000:04:00.3 Serial bus controller: [vmhba33

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5

Cause

The pci.ids file in ESXi 6.5 U1 does not contain an entry for the AMD Naples Zen USB 3.0 controller (Vendor ID: 0x1022, Device ID: 0x145f).

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting ESXi 6.5 U1.
