Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
Usage Meter fails to connect to a supported VMware product.

Resolution

To resolve this issue - review, validate, and troubleshooting the following:
  1. Verify if there are any services or programs enabled or installed between Usage Meter and the product that may interfere with network connectivity, like Firewall. To troubleshoot the connection issue, create exceptions for the host/port traffic in the firewall (or another program) or disable or uninstall it.
  2. Check the Network connections along with latency and product load. For vCenter extensions, Usage Meter is trying to reach out for the extensions from vCenter; if vCenter is failing to respond in time, this must be validated.
  3. Find more information in the logs for the product in the following directory of the Usage Meter appliance: /opt/vmware/cloudusagemetering/var/logs.
  4. Double-check if the hostname or IP address and port number of the metered product is correct.
  5. Verify if you can connect from the Usage Meter (Web or Remote) Console to the product by entering the following command as root:
ping [product hostname or IP]
