This article provides information about Dell EMC PowerProtect support for virtual machines deployed on VMware vSAN data stores.
With Dell EMC PowerProtect, you can administrate backup, replication and restore operations for virtual machines deployed on VMware vSAN data stores.

Resolution

Below is a summary of target use cases, solution architecture, solution components, and support information.

Target use cases:

  • Provide image level(VADP based) backup and restore of virtual machines deployed on VMware vSAN datastores.
  • Provide file-level and folder-level restore to virtual machines residing on VMware vSAN datastores.

Solution Architecture


Solution Components

Dell EMC PowerProtect solution for backup and restore uses the following components:
Dell EMC PowerProtect Data Manager 19.6 or higher
Dell EMC VM Direct Protection engines of same version as the PowerProtect Data Manager
Dell EMC PowerProtect Data Domain Virtual Edition 3.1 or higher
Always check eLab Navigator of Dell EMC for compatibility of data protection components and VMware vSAN components

Support Information

Dell EMC PowerProtect Data Manager can protect workloads using vSphere features including vMotion and HA.

Troubleshooting:

For VMware Protection using PowerProtect Data Manager, please refer to section “Best Practices and Troubleshooting” chapter in the Dell EMC PowerProtect Data Manager Administration and User Guide.

Log collection:
