Unable to increase rx ring buffer on ixgben driver

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
-> unable to increase rx ring buffer size for ixgben driver with "ethtool --G rx 4096" command
-> unable to increase rx ring buffer size for ixgben driver with "esxcli network nic ring current set" command

Resolution

Use the following command to increase rx ring buffer:

esxcfg-module -s “RxDesc=8192” ixgben

Reboot ESXi host to apply the change.



Note: These changes impact network adapter performance and must be validated by the hardware vendor who supplies the network adapter.
