Issue/Introduction

VMware Remote Console (VMRC) can be configured to use Multiple Monitors on a VMware Workstation Pro Virtual Machine that is Local to the Host system. This article outlines limitations of using Multiple Monitors when using Shared or Remote Virtual Machines.

If the host system has multiple monitors, you can configure a virtual machine to use multiple monitors. You can use the multiple-monitor feature when the virtual machine is in full screen mode.

1. Power on the virtual machine and select View > Full Screen.
2. (Optional) Click the Cycle Multiple Monitors button again if the host system has more than two monitors and you want the virtual machine to use all of the monitors.

Symptoms:
Cannot use or configure VMware Remote Console (VMRC) to use multiple monitors.

  • Virtual Machine is Shared VMware Workstation Pro Virtual Machine
  • Virtual Machine is Remote, i.e. VMware vSphere (esxi) Virtual Machine

VMware Workstation 17.5x

Cause

VMware Remote Console (VMRC) does not support Multiple Monitors for 
  • Shared Virtual Machines (VMware Workstation Pro or VMware vSphere)
  • Remote Virtual Machines (VMware vSphere)

  • Supported for VMware Workstation Pro Hosted Local Virtual Machine
  • Not supported for VMware Workstation Pro Shared Virtual Machine or VMware vSphere Remote Virtual Machine.
