Issue/Introduction

This document explains work-arounds to install the update.

Symptoms:
  • You are installing a custom ESXi 6.7 image as a emulated “USB” Emulated CDROM using  iLO, iDRAC, UCS or other back-end server management system.
  • The .iso installer OS fails when loading the “uhci_usb.v00” subsystem.
  • You receive an "Exception Type OD -- General Protection Exception"


Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7

Cause

Some installer versions can be incompatible with the USB emulated CDROM that is being used.

Resolution

There is no resolution at this time.

Workaround:
Physical .iso method:
1. Install ESXi 6.7 using a physical CDROM disk physically in the server's disk tray.

Emulated .iso method:
1. Install ESXi 6.7 using an older, Update 1 or Update 2 version custom .iso from your vendor.
2. Upgrade to ESXi 6.7 Update 3 using an offline bundle or vSphere Update Manager.

Vanilla .iso method:
1. Install ESXi 6.7 using the vanilla VMware-provided ESXi .iso image.

Continued failures to install esxi despite applying workarounds.
