NSX-T Backups are incorrectly reported as completing successfully

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• NSX-T UI reports that both Node and Cluster backups are Successful
• The timestamp for the last Successful backup corresponds to the time of the last scheduled backup
• No backup files are created on the SFTP server corresponding to these successful NSX-T backups

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center
VMware NSX-T Data Center 2.x

Cause

Errors from the SFTP server which prevent backup creation are incorrectly processed resulting in the backup being reported as Successful.

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting NSX-T Data Center and will be resolved in a future release.

Workaround:
Resolve any issue that may be preventing backups.
For example this issue can be observed when the SFTP user account password has expired. In that case reset the password and update the NSX-T backup configuration if necessary.
