Removing an NSX-T cluster/ domain in SDDC Manager fails with "Unable to create transport node collection error"

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

 

  • NSX-T Remove Cluster/Remove Domain workflow will fail at Create Transport Node Collection task with an error  "Unable to create transport node collection error."
     
  • Similar entries are seen in the /var/log/vmware/vcf/domainmanager/domainmanager.log:

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 3.9.x

Resolution

This is known issue on VMware Cloud Foundation for VxRail environments where there are deployed running workload VMs in the cluster/ domain.

To resolve this issue, please complete the steps below:
  1. Navigate to vCenter Web Client in a browser and login.
  2. Go to the Cluster / Domain that is going to be deleted and power off all the VM(s) running.
  3. Right click on the power off VM(s) and select delete from disk.
  4. Return to the SDDC Manager UI and retry the failed task.
