Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • VMware Cloud Foundation does not allow VLAN pinning as part of NSX-T WorkLoad Domain deployments.
  • If a user manually configures teaming policy to support VLAN pinning, workflows will fail.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 3.9.x

Resolution

How this feature is enabled:
  • Creates host uplink profile with additional failover based teaming policies. For a 2 uplink configuration 4 named teaming policies will be generated as below.
|Name                         | Active            | Standby  |
|-----------------------------|-------------------|----------|
|uplink-1                     | uplink-1          | None     |
|uplink-2                     | uplink-2          | None     |
|uplink-1-failover_order      | uplink-1          | uplink-2 |
|uplink-2-failover_order      | uplink-2          | uplink-1 |

How to use this feature:
  1. Make sure there are no NSX-T VI domains deployed in the VCF environment.
  2. Deploy the first NSX-T VI domain which will create the VLAN Transport Zone and the host uplink profile with the named policies.
  3. Update the VLAN Transport Zone and Segments with the right Teaming Policies desired.
  4. The first and all subsequent deployments will continue to have the updated VLAN Transport Zone with the updated policies.
  5. Subsequent VI domains will still require manual association of the named teaming policies to the segments.

Impact/Risks:
This process has to be repeated for each new cluster deployed if desired.
