Issue/Introduction

This article describes how to move a spoke from one cluster node to another.

Note: a word about terminology used in this kb - a Hub refers to an edge that's been configured to be a hub for another edge. A hub is not necessarily a cluster and a cluster is not necessarily a hub. A cluster is a logical grouping of several edges, and every edge within that logical grouping will be called a cluster node.

Environment

SDWAN, Velocloud SDWAN, Cluster

Cause

Different scenarios may require a spoke to be moved to a separate node in a cluster. Some of them may be:

  • Scenario 1: Edge is not able to establish tunnels to the assigned cluster node, and one troubleshooting test will be to try establishing tunnels to another node within the same cluster (proven to work on previous cases)
  • Scenario 2: Rebalance(Diagnostics > Remote Diagnostics > Rebalance Hub Cluster) not working and we may need to move edges manually to another cluster member
  • Scenario 3: Performance degradation on the edge, slow access to tools, a valid test will be to move it to another cluster node for testing as the current node may be overloaded
  • Scenario 4: Super Gateway assigning to only one of the nodes and auto rebalance is disabled, rebalancing the spokes manually to alleviate load

etc.

Resolution

Only a technical support engineer can move a spoke from one cluster node to another.
If necessary, please contact Technical Support with a description of which spoke is connected to which one cluster node.
