Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
In syslog file of the ESXi host, you see entries similar to:

2016-08-23T16:35:53Z jumpstart[66636]: executing start plugin: snmpd
2016-08-23T16:35:54Z root: Starting snmpd
2016-08-23T16:35:54Z root: snmpd has not been enabled.
2016-08-23T16:35:54Z jumpstart[66636]: Jumpstart failed to start: snmpd reason: Execution of command: /etc/init.d/snmpd start failed with status: 1
 
Note: The preceding log excerpts are only examples. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.


Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0

Resolution

snmp service is disabled(by default setting) in turn the daemon does not start the service and returns the failure. This is expected behavior
