Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The VM is hung during vMotion and is stuck 68%
  • VM is enabled with the LWD filter which is used by the backup solution (VCDR, Dell PPDM, etc..)
  • When review vobd in /var/log/vobd.log that indicate vmx core dump please note that it require core dump to debugged for confirmation of the issue

  • In the vmware.log file of a virtual machine you may see the below which indicate a storage layer issue

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0

Cause

DPD panic while there is an ongoing sync with outstanding reads ( I/Os) to the LWD filter. The outstanding I/O can be due to slow storage

Resolution

This is resolved in vSphere 8.0
