Aria Operations unable to establish connection with Aria Networks Adapter

Issue/Introduction

The goal of this knowledge base article is to outline what causes Aria Operations to not establish integration connectivity with Network insight

When testing or validating  the integration connection from Aria Operations to Aria for Networks the following error us displayed:

message: Test connection failed. Error Message: Expected to find an object with property ['error_description'] in path $ but found 'java.lang.String'. This is not a json object according to the JsonProvider: 'com.jayway.jsonpath.spi.json.JsonSmartJsonProvider'.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.12.x
VMware Aria Operations 8.14.x

Cause

the issue is seen when customer leverage VIDM. 

Customer leveraging VIDM will have issues, specifically with connectivity for Network Insight, due to the use of special characters in the password used for local accounts

Resolution

to resolve the issue avoid using any of these special characters for Network Insight integration:

"{" | "}" | "|" | "\" | "^" | "[" | "]" | "`"

Workaround:

none

If using the special characters, the integration will fail.
