Issue/Introduction

TKr 1.27.6 released for vSphere 7.x is not compatible with vCenter 8.x at the time of its release.

This means two things.

  1. Customers who intends to upgrade to vCenter 8.x immediately (in the next 6-8 weeks) must not upgrade to TKr 1.27.6 for vSphere 7.x
  2. Customers who have already upgraded to TKr 1.27.6 for vSphere 7.x must not upgrade to vCenter 8.x (specifically 8.0 U2B), since TKr 1.27.6 is not compatible with vCenter 8.0 U2B. The next release of vCenter 8.x after 8.0U2B will support TKr 1.27.6.

Please note that this is a temporary state. There is active work ongoing to ensure there is a valid upgrade path available to vCenter 8.x at the earliest. This state is only to avoiding having to delay putting out this TKr until the next version of 8.x is released and giving our customers the latest version of kubernetes as quickly as possible.

Resolution

Guidance for the following situations

Case 1:

Your current vCenter version is vCenter 7.0 U3P and have workload clusters on  TKr 1.26.10 for vSphere 7.x.  If you have plans to upgrade to vCenter 8.x in the next six to eight weeks, we recommend you NOT to upgrade your workload clusters to TKr 1.27.6 immediately. You will be able to perform this upgrade once an upgrade path is made available.

Case 2:

If your  current vCenter version is vCenter 7.0 U3P and you have already upgraded your workload clusters to TKr 1.27.6, Please Do NOT Upgrade your vCenter version to vCenter 8.0 U2B. TKr 1.27.6 is not compatible with vCenter 8.0 U2B as indicated in the Interoperability Matrix. We are actively working to release a version of vCenter 8.x which will support the Tkr 1.27.6. Once this is released, you will be able to upgrade that vCenter version.
