Issue/Introduction

VMware HCX Interconnect (IX) and Network Extension (NE) appliance virtual machines (VMs) are currently built from a GuestOS type of "otherLinux64Guest”. This GuestOS type is not included in the GuestOS compatibility matrix for VMXNET3 (VMXNET Generation 3) virtual network adapters:

As a result, the following warning message is generated when the HCX appliance VMs are vMotioned either manually or via the Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS). This warning message does not cause any problem and can be ignored since the HCX appliances will continue to work as expected after the vMotion is complete.

Virtual ethernet card 'Network Adapter 1' is not supported.

Resolution

The resolution of changing the HCX appliances GuestOS type to one that will not generate the warning message is not a trivial one. A change would introduce risk in compatibility with one or more of the following: vSphere version, VM Tools, VMXNET3 features, and the HCX appliance hardware version. Based on this risk and the fact that the warning message is harmless, a resolution is not being considered at this time
