[VCDR] Snapshots failing for Protection Group

Issue/Introduction

To provide potential solution to snapshots failing with this error.

Gather the Protection group name as well as the impacted VMs within that protection group.

Symptoms:

Snapshots failing for Protection Group with the following error:
Snapshot for protection group <protection group name> failed. Could not snapshot any VM. Task ID:xxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

When viewing the VCDR Connector appliance a VM that is included in the Protection Group's vmdk is mounted as an HDD.

 

 

Cause

The snapshots will fail due to the fact that the VCDR Connector appliance has a lock on the VM's vmdk

Resolution

The issue is being worked on for a future release.

Workaround:

Remove the vmdk from the VCDR Connector appliance
After removing the vmdk from the VCDR Connector appliance consolidate existing snapshots on the impacted VM.

Additional Information

Impact/Risks:
Unable to complete snapshots on Protection Group causing potential missing data.
