Issue/Introduction

  • Protection group configured with vadp or standard frequency snapshot may fail with below error:

Snapshot for protection group <protection group name> failed. Could not snapshot any VM. Task ID:xxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • When viewing the VLCR Connector appliance configuration, the vmdk of the failed snapshot protected Virtual machine is mounted as an Hard disk.

Environment

VMware Live Cyber Recovery 7.26.x and older.

Cause

The VADP based snapshot will fail if VLCR Connector appliance or a third party backup solution has a read-only lock on the Virtual machine's vmdk. For more information refer KB321295

Resolution

The issue with connector appliance holding a lock after a successful VLCR protection task is targeted to be fixed in future releases.

To workaround this issue:

1) Remove the vmdk from the VLCR Connector appliance.
2) After removing the vmdk from the VLCR Connector appliance, consolidate existing snapshots on the impacted VM.
