Issue/Introduction

  • One or more VM fails to power on during recovery in VLCR due to a hostname issue.
  • Error in the logs: 

"Error Do not power on VM <vm-name> as the guest customization was skipped"

Warning Cannot customize VM with unsupported guest hostname. The hostname cannot be unset. It can only have letters, numbers, and hyphens (-); it cannot contain periods (.), underscores (_), or blank spaces."

 

 

Environment

VMware Live Cyber Recovery 7.27.x

VMware Live Cyber Recovery 7.26.x

Cause

This is expected behavior when a VM contains an unsupported character in its hostname or its FQDN

Resolution

Remove the unsupported characters from the VM's hostname.

Workaround:
You can manually power on the VM in the recovery SDDC, however it will continue to encounter the issue until hostname is resolved for subscquent attemp using recovery plan.
