Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Storage vMotion fails with error:

        Failed waiting for data. Error 195887107

• A disk-specific file callback for creating a mirror node failed, causing Storage vMotion to fail
• Failed to attach mirror devices for disk copy
• A fatal internal error occurred. See the virtual machine's log for more details

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.0

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0.0

Cause

Due to previous actions, the Virtual Machine or Host could be in a bad state causing the storage vMotion to fail. Check vmkernel.log for more information
Or, If the virtual machine is running on a multi-writer disk neither shared nor non-shared disks of the VM can be migrated using Storage vMotion as the virtual machine stun is required to initiate the storage migration.

Resolution

Check if the VM is running on multi-writer disk, follow the KB Storage vMotion fails with Error 195887107 (318799)

In case of non multi-writer disk VM, To fix the storage vMotion error, first move/migrate the Virtual machine to different Host on the cluster i.e. perform compute vMotion of the VM to another ESXi host and then perform the Storage vMotion to another datastore.
Please note : The above steps has to be performed one after the other and cannot be done together part of xvMotion.
