Issue/Introduction

When attempting to clone an OVF template from a remote vCenter content library, the following error may be encountered:

Clone library item failure
Failed to retrieve the target content library for cloning

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0.0

Cause

This issue occurs when the vCenter does not have a local content library configured.
Cloning from a remote content library requires a local target content library to store the cloned OVF template.

Resolution

To resolve the issue:

1. Log in to the local vCenter Server.

2. Navigate to:
   Menu > Content Libraries > Create a New Content Library

3. Create a local content library on this vCenter instance.

4. Retry cloning the OVF template from the remote content library.
   The operation should now complete successfully as the local target is available.
