How to switch from Offline to Online mode in vCloud Usage Meter

Issue/Introduction

Switching from Usage Meter in Offline mode to Usage Meter in Online mode is not currently supported. To change your Usage Meter operation mode from Offline to Online, you need to redeploy your Usage Meter in Online mode and add your VMware products to it anew.

Procedure

1. Deploy a new Usage Meter in Online mode, we will call it UM-ONLINE. See for reference: How do I deploy Usage Meter.
2. Register UM-ONLINE in the VMware Commerce Portal in Test mode. See for reference: How do I register vCloud Usage Meter in VMware Commerce Portal.
3. Add the same VMware products into UM-ONLINE as your Usage Meter in offline mode (UM-OFFLINE). See for reference: Manage the metering in vCloud Usage Meter.
4. Complete the reporting of your UM-OFFLINE for the whole month.
5. Download the usage data of UM-OFFLINE on the first day of the following month. See for reference: How do I download the product consumption data for a vCloud Usage Meter instance running in an offline mode.
6. Upload your usage data of UM-OFFLINE to Usage Insight within the first 48 hours of the following month. Upload the usage data no later than 23:59 UTC on the second day of the following month. 7. After uploading your usage data for the reporting month, delete the UM-OFFLINE registration in the VMware Commerce Portal.
8. Change UM-ONLINE to Production mode in VMware Commerce Portal.

Note: If you need to check your usage reports generated from UM-OFFLINE, then re-register your appliance in VMware Commerce Portal in Test mode to regain access to them in Usage Insight.
