Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
After successful upgrade from Usage Meter 4.X to UM 4.4, login into Usage Meter 4.4 web application fails with the HTTP error:  This site can’t be reached.

Environment

VMware vCloud Usage Meter 4.x

Cause

The reason is the Photon OS tdnf package manager cache is inconsistent as it contains packages that have been previously installed.

Resolution


Troubleshooting

To troubleshoot this issue, check the status of Usage Meter 4.4 services and logs, and the packages that have been installed on your Usage Meter appliance.
 

Procedure


Note: Log in to your Usage Meter 4.4 appliance as root to perform the following steps.
  1. Check the status of the Usage Meter 4.4 services by running the following commands:
    cd /opt/vmware/cloudusagemetering
    
    bash scripts/status.sh 
  2. If Usage Meter services are offline, check the Usage Meter logs:
vim /opt/vmware/var/logs/um-upgrade.log
  1. Check what packages have been installed on the Usage Meter 4.4 appliance by running the following command:
tdnf list installed

Resolution


To resolve the login issue, you need to revert the snapshot of your Usage Meter to Usage Meter 4.X and clean its tdnf package manager cache, then start the upgrade process again.
 

Procedure

  1. Revert your Usage Meter snapshot to Usage Meter 4.X.
  2. Log in to Usage Meter 4.X as root.
  3. Execute the following command:
tdnf clean all
  1. Start the upgrade from Usage Meter 4.X to Usage Meter 4.4.
