Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • VMs will remove tags if they disappear from the vCenter inventory for more than 30 minutes.
  • Multisite migrations complete successfully, but tags are being deleted from NSX-T.
  • Security rules aren't effective after Disaster recovery.
  • After long storage migration (30 minutes or more), the VMs can lose their NSX-T tags.

Environment

VMware NSX for Multi-Hypervisor

Cause

This is expected behavior.
If the VM disappears from the vCenter inventory for more than 30 minutes and comes back, NSX-T will re-discover the VM as new object (new UUID) and therefore previous tags will need to be reapplied.

Resolution

As this is expected behaviour, there is no resolution.

Workaround:
Re-apply the tags to the new VM (from NSX-T perspective).
