VMware NSX-T Data Center

Issue/Introduction

  • VMs will remove tags if they disappear from the vCenter inventory for more than 30 minutes.
  • Multisite migrations complete successfully, but tags are being deleted from NSX.
  • Security rules aren't effective after disaster recovery.
  • After long storage migration (30 minutes or more), the VMs can lose their NSX tags.

Environment

VMware NSX

VMware NSX-T Data Center

Cause

If the VM disappears from the vCenter inventory for more than 30 minutes and comes back, NSX-T will re-discover the VM as new object (new UUID) and therefore previous tags will need to be reapplied, this is expected behavior.

Resolution

This is a condition that may occur in a VMware NSX environment.

Workaround
  • Re-apply the tags to the new VM
